Design, digital collage & art direction for a book about the history of ancient monuments.

We noticed a gap in the market for a photographic history book, but done beautifully. Though existing historical monuments can tell us a lot about the past, it’s often hard to imagine what life was like when they were build, or at other various points throughout their history. The Life Behind Doors series uses die cuts, gatefolds and flaps to unveil layers of history within these beautiful monuments, using Naida Mazzenga’s colourful illustrattion to bring different periods of history to life.

The project was challenging in terms of design, with the requirement to find suitable stock images, stitch them together and colour grade them to carry the ‘layers of history’ through the book visually, in addition to commissioning the illustration.
